Our Verdict
At 1,079g (Medium), the Patagonia Windshadow Parka is a substantial coat, but the waterproof 150-denier shell and 200g Thermogreen insulation through the body provide far more warmth than a typical hiking jacket. The hood and sleeves use 150g insulation, while the adjustable hood, cuffs and storm flap help seal out wind and rain.
The smooth lining makes it easy to layer over a fleece, and the two hand pockets, external chest pocket and internal pocket provide straightforward storage.
It is too heavy, warm and bulky for sustained hillwalking, but works well for commuting, travel, standing around outdoors and relaxed winter walks in cold, wet weather.
