Our Verdict
At 769g (Medium), the Patagonia Windshadow Insulated Jacket is substantial; its waterproof 150-denier shell and 80g Thermogreen insulation provide dependable protection in poor weather. I like the adjustable hood, cuffs and hem, which make it easier to seal out wind and rain while leaving room for additional layers.
The smooth lining helps it slide comfortably over a fleece, while two hand pockets, an external chest pocket and an internal pocket provide straightforward storage.
It is too warm and bulky for sustained uphill walking, and ventilation is limited to the front zip. This works best for commuting, dog walking, travel and relaxed winter walks where warmth and weather protection matter more than low weight.
