Our Verdict
At just 91g (Medium), the Patagonia Women’s Capilene Lightweight Zip Neck is a light, breathable layer with added ventilation. The thin recycled polyester fabric sits close to the skin without feeling compressive, moves moisture quickly and dries fast after heavy exertion.
The half zip gives far more control over ventilation than a crew neck. At the same time, the low-profile seams and underarm gussets help the top sit comfortably beneath a rucksack. Thumb loops, always welcome, extend the coverage over the hands.
The fabric offers little insulation, but that is also what makes it so effective for fast hiking, running and other sustained activity where overheating is the greater problem.
