Our Verdict
The Vertex 32 is more of a technical mountain pack than a conventional lightweight rucksack. The narrow, tapered shape is designed to stay out of the way while climbing and scrambling, while the Dyneema Woven Composite gives it far more abrasion resistance than I would normally expect from a pack this light.
The feature I like most is the full side access. The twin YKK zips let you get deep into the main compartment without unrolling the top or emptying half the pack, which makes far more sense on technical ground or at a belay. The removable rope strap, ice-tool attachments and external crampon cord also feel properly integrated rather than added for appearance.
At 625g (Medium), with a 32L capacity and 11.3kg load limit, it stays impressively light for such a tough build. The compromise is that the tapered shape packs less efficiently than a conventional hiking sack, but that is clearly secondary to keeping it stable and unobtrusive while climbing.
