Our Verdict
The LEKI Makalu Pro FX Carbon Trekking Poles strike a thoughtful balance between packability, stability and long-distance comfort. At 260g per pole, they are not the lightest folding poles available, but the combination of the carbon shaft construction and compact 41cm packed size makes them particularly appealing for backpacking and travel.
The Aergon Air grip is the standout feature for me. The cork contact surface feels premium in the hand, while the ergonomic shape provides excellent support on long descents. I also like the grip extension, which makes it easy to adjust my hand position on steeper terrain without stopping to adjust the pole length.
The 110-130cm adjustment range is practical for a broad range of users and works well with most trekking pole shelters. Combined with the reliable Speed Lock system and compact folding design, it creates a pole that feels equally suited to hiking and camp duties.
For backpacking, hillwalking and long-distance trails, this is a well-rounded premium trekking pole.
