The Kajka X-Lätt 45 is a long-lasting trekking backpack that is lightweight, rich in functional features and easy to repair. The 45 L main compartment is made with our extremely hardwearing fabric, Vinylon F, around a high-quality birch wood frame. The back length is fully adjustable, and the stretch side pockets and removable front pocket sleeve offer extra storage. The inside pocket is detachable and can be used separately as a small crossbody bag for essentials. This S/M-sized model has slightly tapered shoulder straps to better fit smaller frames and give more room for the bust, plus a slightly shorter and more curved hip belt.
Our Verdict
The Fjällräven Kajka X-Lätt 45 is an interesting pack because it feels more substantial than its 1161g (S/M) weight would suggest. The adjustable back system and supportive hip belt transfer weight effectively, creating a carry that feels closer to a traditional trekking pack than many lightweight alternatives.
What stands out to me is the balance between durability and weight. The Vinylon F fabric and birch wood frame retain much of the rugged character associated with the Kajka name, while the streamlined design keeps the overall weight surprisingly competitive.
I also like the removable front pocket sleeve and detachable internal pocket, both of which add flexibility without overcomplicating the pack. Being able to tailor the height of the bottle pockets depending on what you're carrying is exactly the kind of thoughtful innovation I expect from Fjällräven.
The two mesh hip belt pockets are handy for snacks and frequently used items, though I would have preferred at least one zipped closure. I often keep medication in a hip belt pocket, and it's reassuring to know important items are safe and accessible. That said, the traditional floating lid provides a secure, zipped storage option, making it easy to keep essentials such as a first-aid kit close at hand.
Ventilation is good rather than exceptional, as the pack sits relatively close to the back, but the stability benefits are noticeable. For multi-day trekking and lightweight backpacking, it strikes a thoughtful balance between comfort, durability and weight savings.
