Made with bluesign® approved Pertex® Shield NetPlus® fabric from 100% recycled nylon, this gaiter offers highly breathable, durable weatherproof performance without the bulk. The updated design features a reinforced Hypalon instep strap for secure attachment, a boot lace hook for added stability, and a double-stitched hook-and-loop closure for lasting durability. An offset left/right design simplifies setup, while a top drawcord cinch ensures a snug, stay-put fit through every climb, scramble, and stride.
Our Verdict
At 103g (Medium), the Outdoor Research Helium UL Gaiter is aimed squarely at fast-moving hikers who want waterproof protection from mud, wet vegetation and occasional snow without adding much complexity to their kit. The close-fitting design sits neatly around the lower leg. It remains comfortable over long days on the trail, while the breathable fabric helps reduce the clammy feel often associated with waterproof gaiters.
The updated fabric is noticeably softer and more flexible than previous Helium versions, making it easier to wear for extended periods. The lace hook, drawcord closure and reinforced instep strap create a secure fit that stays in place well when covering ground quickly. Durability is naturally balanced against the low weight. Still, for maintained paths and long-distance backpacking, the trade-off feels sensible, though they arnt something I would do prolonged bushwacking through heather and bracken in.
