Our Verdict
At 237g (Medium), the 7Mesh Guardian Apex Gore-Tex Pants are very light for a fully waterproof mountain shell, especially considering the reinforced seat and instep.
What stands out most to me is the articulation. The cut allows plenty of movement without leaving much loose fabric, so they feel far less restrictive than many traditional overtrousers.
The GORE-TEX ePE fabric provides solid wet-weather protection, while the C-Knit backer keeps the inside from feeling stiff and plasticky. I also like the two-position hem, which can be kept narrow around lighter footwear or opened wider over hiking and mountaineering boots.
For such a light shell, the balance of mobility, weather protection and reinforced construction is very well judged.
