A warm, high-loft fleece that prioritises breathability and comfort in cold conditions.
Rab says:
Bring warmth, comfort, and functionality to your climbing and hiking layering system with this versatile hoody. Built with a recycled, high-lofting fleece, it ensures great warmth for its weight, with soft stretch cuffs and hem to seal in the heat.
Our Verdict
At 385g (Medium), the Granitic Hoody is a much more substantial fleece than a typical lightweight hiking midlayer. The 208g/m² high-loft fabric traps plenty of warmth while remaining breathable enough for steady movement in cold conditions.
The Regular fit leaves room for a baselayer without feeling overly baggy, while the elasticated under-helmet hood keeps the design simple and low bulk. I also like the Thermic Pro reinforcement around the cuffs and hem, where a high-loft fleece is more likely to see wear.
Two zipped hand pockets and two zipped chest pockets give it more storage than most fleeces, making it practical as a standalone layer on dry, cold days. It is bulkier than a synthetic or down jacket with similar warmth, but the high-loft construction makes it much easier to leave on while moving.
