Warm, highly packable down trousers designed to add insulation at camp
Rab says:
Packable down pants providing a boost of warmth on bivis, belay ledges, and at basecamp. With wind-resistant fabric and 800FP down, they expertly balance warmth and low bulk. An essential on multi-day climbing and mountaineering trips.
Our Verdict
At 370g (Medium), the Electron Pro Down Pants pack in 153g of 800FP hydrophobic goose down, giving them a strong warmth-to-weight ratio for cold camps, bivis and long stops. The 20D Pertex Quantum Pro outer adds wind resistance and a little extra protection from light moisture.
I like the removable belt and insulated two-way fly, which make them easier to adjust over other layers and the elasticated hems also help seal in warmth.
The main limitation is the lack of full-length side zips, so pulling them on over bulky winter boots may be awkward.
