Our Verdict
At 455g (Medium), the Montane Dura Hoodie is a substantial midlayer, but the THERMO MLG fabric offers more than warmth. The grid-backed inner traps heat, while the smoother double-weave outer adds stretch, abrasion resistance and a bit more protection from wind and light weather, as it has been treated with a DWR
I like fleeces I can leave on without constantly stopping to add a wind shell, and that is where the Dura makes most sense to me. The under-helmet hood, minimal seams and harness-friendly chest pocket all suit that mountain focus.
It is heavier and less airy than a simple grid fleece, but for cold, exposed use I think that extra protection is worth the trade-off.
