UOG TOP PICK: Warm, waterproof, and impressively light, the OMM Barrage Insulated Shell Jacket blends Primaloft insulation with complete weather protection — a top choice for fast, cold mountain days.
OMM says:
Using 80g/m2 of high quality PrimaLoft® Gold with Cross Core Technology in the body and 40g/m2 in the arms, along with our tried and tested PointZero H2O waterproof fabric, the Barrage is your protection against foul weather. Combining technologies from across the OMM range the Barrage waterproof outer has arrived from our Wisp range and the insulation from the Mountain Raid sleep systems and Rotor insulation. The Barrage also includes connectors to build into a sleeping bag with the Rotor Pant. It is equally at home on the mean streets as at a wet and windy camp on The OMM, with fully adjustable hood and two zipped hand warmer pockets.
PRIMALOFT® CROSS-CORE GOLD WITH CROSS CORE, THE HIGHEST QUALITY SYNTHETIC INSULATION -
PrimaLoft® Gold with Cross Core technology is PrimaLoft®’s highest quality synthetic insulation and replaces PrimaLoft® Gold Eco as OMM’s choice insulation. The result is significantly more warmth per gram and still retains 35% recycled content. Warmth without bulk, water resistant, breathable, packable. Combined with our PointZero H2O outer layer to provide a fully waterproof, windproof, breathable and insulating layer.
WIND & WATERPROOF - Our tried and tested lightest waterproof fabric is put to work to create a protective layer unlike anything we have made before. Fully wind and waterproof, the PointZero H20 fabric is our go-to race weight waterproof fabric.
SLEEP SUIT COMPATIBLE - The Barrage Jacket can be connected to the Rotor Pant & Foot Pod to create an ultra-lightweight sleeping bag alternative. The sleep suit is designed for walking around camp and lightweight overnights
Our Verdict
At around 403g (Medium), it combines Primaloft Cross-Core insulation with a fully taped waterproof shell. The cut is close, which helps it sit neatly under a pack and reduces bulk, though it leaves less room if you prefer layering underneath. Warmth is impressive for its weight, and the synthetic fill retains heat even when damp.
The peaked hood and extended cuffs provide welcome coverage, and the hand pockets are well-placed. Breathability is decent for an insulated waterproof, but heat build-up becomes noticeable during sustained exertion. The outer fabric is lightweight, which benefits packability. For fast, cold mountain days where you need both insulation and weather protection in one piece, it’s a capable option.
It is also advised to consider sizing up as they do seem to fit smaller then other brands.
