Our Verdict
With the same cut and feel as one of our firm favourites, the Alpha 60 Hoodie now uses a lighter Polartec Alpha Direct fabric. At 113g (Medium), it provides moderate insulation for very little weight and packs down incredibly small.
Wind passes straight through the Alpha 60 material, which may seem like a drawback, but it is actually its main strength. The open fabric releases excess heat and moisture exceptionally well. Adding a windproof or waterproof layer traps far more warmth and turns it into an effective part of a layering system.
The main compromise is durability. The fabric needs care around brush and scrub. It's a specialised piece, and however much you want to wear it round the house (I do with my Alpha 120), I would save it for the hills.
