Our Verdict
The Aenergy Air IN uses Mammut’s new LOOPINSULATION Active, made from recycled rope-production offcuts and recycled PET. Its accordion-like structure is designed to become more breathable as you move, helping excess heat escape, then trap more warmth when you slow down or stop.
At 470g (Medium), this is a substantial active-insulation jacket, not a minimalist layer. I like the chunky zips, which feel much better suited to winter use than a tiny ultralight zip, while the two internal pockets are useful for stashing gloves, a hat or other cold-weather layers. The hand pockets are not huge, but they are positioned to work with a pack.
The close-fitting hood has no adjustment, and there is no hem adjustment either, which I would have liked. The elasticated cuffs seal neatly over gloves, though, and the overall fit is clearly designed around staying active in cold conditions.
