Lightweight core insulation with a tougher build for regular mountain use.
Rab says:
The down vest every mountain person needs, combining a low-bulk design, 700FP hydrophobic down, and Pertex® Quantum with NetPlus® to offer packable, versatile warmth. Lightweight and easy to layer, it's a staple for year-round, all-mountain use.
Our Verdict
At 248g (UK12), the 2026 Microlight Down Vest uses a 20x30D Pertex Quantum shell, giving it a more robust feel than more delicate ultralight down vests while remaining easy to layer.
The 80g of 700FP hydrophobic recycled down provides torso warmth without adding bulk around the arms, while the zoned micro and nano baffles help the down loft more effectively through the body. I also like the Regular fit, which leaves enough room for a baselayer or fleece underneath without feeling overly loose.
The adjustable hem and two zipped hand pockets keep the design straightforward, and one pocket doubles as an integrated stuff pocket. It is not the lightest vest for its warmth, but I think the tougher shell makes that compromise worthwhile for regular hill use.
