Our Verdict
At 141g (UK12), the Patagonia 2026 Capilene Midweight Bottoms offer a useful step up in warmth without feeling bulky beneath walking or waterproof trousers. The recycled-polyester double knit has a smooth outer face for easy layering, while the dot-joint construction allows air to move through the fabric and helps prevent heat building too quickly.
The fit is close without feeling compressive, and the gusseted crotch, low-bulk seams and soft waistband keep them comfortable over longer periods.
They work well as both walking thermals and pyjama bottoms, providing enough warmth for colder nights without feeling overly heavy or restrictive. For cool to cold conditions, they offer a good balance of insulation, breathability and comfort.
