Tiny solution for half-used gas canisters
Alpenglow says:
This is the world's lightest tool to transfer fuel between canisters! You can split larger canisters at home, siphon from half-full canisters, or even drain a canister before recycling-- all for 3.1 grams (0.11 oz).
By creating a temperature difference between the canisters, liquid fuel will flow from the donor (on top) to the colder recipient (on bottom).
Saturn Revision: This updated version includes feedback from thousands of trail miles: instructions, a lanyard loop, and a wider outline are all now baked into the body so it's easier to use, keep, and find.
Our Verdict
At just 3g, the 2026 Alpenglow Gear Alpenflow Gas Transfer Adapter is one of those little bits of kit that can make a surprising difference on longer trips.
It lets you transfer fuel between compatible threaded canisters, which is especially useful for consolidating partially used cartridges instead of carrying two nearly empty ones.
The 2026 version adds taller guide walls to keep the canisters aligned, plus printed instructions and a lanyard loop. Those are small changes, but they make sense on something this tiny and easy to lose.
You do need to pay attention to fill levels, fuel blends, and temperature differences between canisters. Still, the simplicity and near-negligible weight make it a very practical bit of kit for long-distance hiking.

Tips & Warnings
- Never use a stove, oven, or flame to heat the donor can. Warming the donor canister should only be performed if cooling off the recipient isn’t possible.
- Only transfer butane, isobutane, or a winter blend (up to 20% propane)
- Never fill past the original canister's fill level (~85%)
- Please wait 30-60 seconds between applications to allow the foam seals to thaw and rebound. Immediately transferring without pause can lead to torn and permanently crushed seals.
- Fuel canisters are illegal to fly with even if empty
- For personal use only: USDOT 49 CFR §178.65 bans the transportation of refilled disposable canisters for commercial purposes in the United States
